ALSTOM/Egyptian National Railways

Confirming its growing market position, being now the partner of choice for leading international firms, Hassan Allam Technologies has successfully secured the “Beni Sueif-Assiut Rail Line Resignalling” project award with ALSTOM/Egyptian National Railways.

18 June 2018

The project involves upgrading the 240-km-long Beni Sueif-Assiut rail line with ALSTOM’s new Smartlock electronic interlocking system (EIS) to replace the existing electromechanical system, trackside equipment, power supply and telecommunication system- in which HAT’s scope entails civil, MEP and trenching telecommunications infrastructure works.

The system is due to be operational in 2019 and is expected to boost rail traffic potential by more than 80 %, which means more trains can be kept in circulation on the network.

The project is financed by the World Bank and was launched by Egypt’s Ministry of Transport as part of an initiative to modernize signalling systems all over the ENR network, enhance operation and increase the level of safety to match international standards.
