Hafeet Rail
Scope of work
Project Description
Siemens Mobility, in collaboration with Hassan Allam Construction, has secured the signaling contract for the UAE-Oman Railway Link, known as the Hafeet Rail. This project represents the first cross-country railway network in the Middle East and the Arab world, connecting Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates to Sohar in the Sultanate of Oman, covering a distance of 303 kilometers.
This project is notable for delivering Oman’s first-ever railway system. The contract, awarded by Oman – Etihad Rail, a joint venture between the UAE and Oman, involves the design, construction, and integration of the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 signaling, telecom, and power supply systems along the railway link. The solutions provided by Siemens Mobility and Hassan Allam Construction are state-of-the-art and designed to withstand desert conditions.
The initiative is part of a broader vision to connect GCC nations through an integrated rail network. The UAE-Oman Railway will link the port of Sohar in Oman to the UAE’s National Railway network in Abu Dhabi, which connects all seven emirates and extends to the border of Saudi Arabia. The project aims to facilitate cross-border trade, enhance supply chain efficiency by linking commercial ports and economic zones, and boost commercial and social connectivity between the UAE and Oman. Additionally, it seeks to link industrial hubs, improve logistical services, and support the expansion of various industrial sectors, economic activities, and tourism.
